SmartForest 2026 | Data Ecosystem Laboratory
SmartForest 2026 will take place on the 12th and 13th of March, 2026, at the Technical University of Munich’s campus in Freising, at the Zentrum Wald-Forst-Holz Weihenstephan.
The conference boosts a diverse programme, featuring experts from both science and practice.
You can find a more extensive overview of this programme here.
This page provides information on the Data Ecosystem Laboratory, an interactive space to connect forestry digitalisation challenges with technological solutions.
You can register for SmartForest 2026 here.

The Data Ecosystem Laboratory is an interactive space where participants connect demand and supply for data and digital services.
The laboratory presents three current initiatives that are making processes in forestry more digital, efficient, and accessible:
- The Forest Data Space by wetransform
- The DTMForst-Datentreuhänder by KWH 4.0
- The Nature Intelligence Infrastructure from FFI
You are the demand side: What data do you need most urgently? Where are the bottlenecks in data exchange? What data do you have that you cannot pass on to your partners in a meaningful way or cannot use to create enough value yourself? And which processes are currently inefficient and should be rethought?
In the lab, you can use pinboards, maps, strings, and discussions with other participants to design the network that will genuinely help forestry and nature move forward. You create the connections that make a functioning system!
